Relax....Relate....Release!!

The last 10 years of my life have been quite a ride. A roller coaster if you will of experiences, emotions, conditions, relationships and other dynamic aspects of my life. I've learned A LOT of things...waaaay too much to include in this blog.

However, the one thing I want to share in this thought is the lesson I've learned about patience, temperance and stepping back to see the forest for the trees. Many successful people suffer from anxiety, which I have experienced myself. Let's define from the Wiki- Anxiety is a psychological and physiological state characterized by somatic, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral components.[2] The root meaning of the word anxiety is 'to vex or trouble'; in either the absence or presence of psychological stress, anxiety can create feelings of fear, worry, uneasiness and dread. It bears to mention that some level of anxiety is normal and can help an individual cope and take action is stressful situations. However, there is a fine line between normal and abnormal.

By practicing the technique made popular on the hit 80's-90's sitcom "A Different World"....Relax, Relate, Release.....It is a very simple concept but when implemented can have a real effect on a complex condition. When feeling the pressures of life, I now simply take a second to take a deep breath, look at the situation from an "outside" perspective and understand that at the end of the day, there are always more things to be thankful for than problems. Prescription drug companies make billions of dollars a year producing anti-depressants like Lexapro, Prozac, Abilify and others, most with horrendous side effects.

So the next time you're feeling "anxious" just remember to a. RELAX , b. RELATE,  c. RELEASE

Why be suprised??? That's just what he does!

If you are a Bible student you are very familiar with the dozens of scriptures about the Power of God....Miracles....Expecting Great Things. Over the last several years God has shown me things and came through for me in ways I never imagined. He has made a way out of no way, caused unseen blessings, opened doors, closed doors, changed hearts in my favor etc on numerous occasions. I have learned to TOTALLY depend on him, because I know now that there is no other way.

Recently, the Lord opened two huge doors for me. Its funny because although I was very happy and thankful, I found myself almost unfazed...and these were two HUGE doors! Its funny though because I know I am a child of God, I have committed my ways to Him, I trust in Him and lean not to my own understanding like Proverbs says to do and now I have a feeling of expectancy! I was almost unfazed by the two open doors because God has promised me these great things would happen if I obey him, believe and remain faithful...so now to me its like "of course these great things happened...God has already promised it". He's my Father, why wouldn't these great things happen. Also he's done it so many times in the past. Don't get me wrong...I am very grateful and I know its only because of his love and mercy because I do not because of myself deserve it. However, I know God only has the best for me and that's what I expect.

Lebron James is a remarkable, almost supernatural basketball player, but how many times have his teammates seen him defy the laws of gravity and physics? How many unfathomable feats have they been witness too? There has to come a time, when he does something completely remarkable to the average person, his teammates have to say ehhh "that's Lebron....and that's what he does!". Everyday I expect greatness, and unimaginable favor from my God....that's what I signed up for.

Resilience is the key! When life gives you lemons....make Hard Lemonade..

I absolutely love the show "Two and a Half Men", and Charlie Sheen was definitely the key to the show. I guess that was evidenced in the fact that he was the highest paid person on TV raking in an estimated $2M per episode. However, despite the fame and fortune, Charlie Sheen was not exempt from the pressures and dark side of life. Unless you've been living under a rock the last few weeks, you know the problems he's had with drugs, alcohol, loose women and the other addictions so many successful men fall victim to, so I'm not going to go into detail over it.

As a result of his recent tirades he was fired from the show. However, his reaction to the dismissal was not one you'd expect from a person that just lost a $40 million dollar gig. Surprisingly...Charlie responded with a complete lack of concern. He almost seemed happy they had told him to hit the road!  Not even 30 days later Sheen is on a Midwest tour doing stand up comedy! Reports say he sold out the Fox Theater in Detroit and a major venue in Chicago in 18 minutes!! That's what I call gettin' it in! See Charlie realizes its not the show that made him "the man" it was HIM! As long as Charlie Sheen is Charlie Sheen he can and will be able to make money....show or no show. He is taking a very negative situation, negative publicity and exploiting it to benefit himself....BRILLIANT!

I think this is a great example of taking a negative situation, continuing to believe in yourself and making it work for you. This is exactly the type of resilience, creativity and moxie that Detroiters need to embrace in order to overcome the obstacles that have been thrown in our path... Cheers to Charlie!

The maiden voyage into the mind of Lamir Media Founder, Ponce Lamir

Today I embark on a voyage into the endless boundaries of thought, rhyme and reason.

As a foresight into the direction I'm going to take this, you can expect to hear my thoughts on my beloved city Detroit, MI as well as the state as a whole. The Motor City, Motown, D-Town, The "D".....whatever you choose to call it, Detroit and its residents have made some of the largest contributions to life as we know it today. Detroit has all but created, defined and refined the car industry and the music industry. Metro Detroit has spawned some of the greatest business minds, political minds, activists and entertainers the world has ever seen! Icons from our 38th President Gerald Ford to arguably the best female entertainer of all time, Madonna have at one time or another called Michigan home.

I am a native of Detroit and proud of it. Currently Detroit is experiencing some very hard times, however it is this very type of intense pressure that transforms coal into diamonds. Detroit is a blue collar town forged in the heat of adversity. Detroit and its surrounding cities are filled with people who are mentally, emotionally and physically tough. Every year we endure hard, cold winters; we have been to the mountain top and we've been low in the valley but one thing we never do is quit!

Where there is challenge there is opportunity, where there is despair, there is hope. WE ARE DETROIT....AND THIS IS WHAT WE DO!

I'll be using this blog to share and chronicle my adventures, experiences, challenges and accomplishments here in helping to polish off the political and social stains left on our great jewel of a community.

Thank you for listening
